Explore the Rockies

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Explore the Rockies event from 8-11 Sept 26 is now open. The application deadline is 26 July 26.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
This 3-day program in the rocky mountains includes white water rafting, hiking, standup paddle boarding and cycling along the iconic legacy trail between Canmore and Banff. This event will come with instruction and opportunities to build outdoor skills throughout the program. Participants should be comfortable with moderate physical activity and changing weather conditions. The focus is on getting outdoors, trying different activities, and spending time in a supportive group environment, with a chance to connect with others, learn new skills, and enjoy a few days in a unique mountainous setting. 

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 12.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Alberta and Northern Canada geographical area who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

8 Sept 26 (Travel Day) 09:00 hrs: Depart 3 CDSB Edmonton via DND vans13:50 hrs: White water rafting with White Wolf rafting. 
9 Sept 26 09:30 hrs: Hike Tunnel Mountain (4.7 kms with 265 meters of elevation gain).  Moderate hike13:30 hrs: Stand up paddle boarding with Bow Valley SUP and Surf 
10 Sept 26 10:30 hrs:  Assisted bike ride from Canmore to Banff 12:00 hrs: Lunch in Banff 13:00 to 14:30: Assisted bike ride from Banff to Canmore. 
11 Sept 26  (Travel Day)

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:Travel assistance will be provided and coordinated by the Soldier On Regional Coordinator in conjunction with Soldier On Operations. The most economical means of transportation to and from events will be prioritized and discussed with members via the event OPI or delegate
